The guide is usually accepted by prison mailrooms. However occasionally overzealous prison staff reject it on the basis that it is a ‘threat to the security of the institution’. In such a case, since the digital version is included with all paperback orders, the purchaser will be refunded $50 (the difference in cost between the digital edition only option and the digital version plus hardcopy option).

Federal Prison: A Comprehensive Survival Guide provides the most accurate and up to date information on preparing for and surviving federal prison available anywhere. The problem with relying on information from various websites and forums is that these mediums are filled with the opinions of a huge variety of people and they are usually not first hand factual accounts from former federal inmates. As such, there are numerous opportunities to receive misleading and outright dangerous information and advice. Nowhere else, but this guide does such a detailed amount of concise and accurate information relating to life in federal prison exist.
Like most former inmates, I am extremely weary of the government. I watched in dismay as an Assistant US Attorney pleaded and argued for a harsher sentence after the judge had already made up his mind and announced that I would be headed to prison, but for a shorter time than the prosecution had expected. I remember in vivid details my interaction with cold and stone-faced members of the U.S. Marshalls service. I recall all too well the degrading feeling of being just another number in the BOP’s massive bureaucracy. And I have experienced first hand the discrimination and mistrust that comes with being labeled a felon. For these reasons I have written the guide under a pseudonym.
I was convicted on two counts of Student Financial Aid Fraud.
I was incarcerated at the Federal Medical Center, Devens (FMC Devens) in Ayer, Massachusetts, about one hour outside of Boston.
